Fans stream into the futuristic Allianz Arena in Munich. FIFA sold all tickets released on general sale over the internet and by doing so were able to create a database of all travelling fans and link each one to the RFID chips embedded in their tickets.
However, sites such as eBay have also subsequently done a roaring trade in black market tickets and the fact many tickets were just allocated to companies, rather than individuals means the RFID system is effective only up to a point.
Many fans claims to have bought tickets allocated to sponsors.
