Betfair CTO Rorie Devine is leaving the company by "mutual consent" in an amicable parting of ways after five years at the online betting exchange.

Betfair's CEO David Yu said Devine has transformed the company's technology team during his time as CTO.

Yu said in a statement: "He introduced processes and rigour that resulted in our site becoming more stable, performing better, and having more headroom than ever. He also led the department through exceptional growth with headcount tripling and the inclusion of many new products across our portfolio.

"He leaves with my sincere thanks for all his contributions."

Betfair has appointed headhunters to recruit a replacement CTO for Devine.

Devine, who was named one of the UK's top CIOs last year, has a degree in computer systems and electronics from Kings College and started his career with LogicaCMG, working with clients such as the Bank of England.

He then moved on to consulting on trading-floor systems in investment banking, working with more than 20 major financial institutions.

He held a variety of leadership roles in internet businesses before landing at Betfair, which he describes as "a fantastic mix of great people, technology and products".

Devine told silicon.com he is currently looking at a number of "interesting opportunities" outside Betfair.
