It's been busy few weeks at silicon.com as we've been working on a number of big projects that will see the light of day sometime between now and Christmas.

The first one I can share with you is our new series of events. We're launching a series of exclusive CIO events - called the CIO Series - aimed at equipping tech chiefs with the tools they need to be effective leaders, from marketing the IT department and succession planning to preparing for the next generation of business software.

The idea of the events is to provide an intimate environment for IT leaders to connect with their peers and explore the issues and challenges they face as a profession.

The free CIO Series events are exclusively for CIOs and the first will be held at the Michelin-starred Benares restaurant in Mayfair, London on the evening of 29 September.

The theme for that event will be 'Succession planning - how to create the next generation of CIOs' and will cover how to find and develop the right talent and the career path to CIO, with the discussion lead by CIO career development coach Brinley Platts.

Other events planned cover marketing the IT department, building relations with the business and influencing the board, and even the meaty subject of the future of software. I'm really excited about these events, and I'm looking forward to the first one already.

Each CIO Series event is limited to a maximum of 12 CIOs and places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you are a CIO - or equivalent head of IT - and would like to attend any of the first CIO Series events, click here to register as a CIO Series VIP. As a VIP, you'll be the first to hear about future events and CIO-exclusive offers.
