We're just getting ready for the next in our series of exclusive CIO events - the silicon.com CIO Series.

The idea of the events is to provide an intimate environment for IT leaders to connect with their peers and explore the issues and challenges they face as a profession.

The free CIO Series events are exclusively for CIOs (or execs with equivalent job titles). We've already had two events in the last couple of months - one on succession planning and how to create the next generation of CIOs, and one on raising the profile of the IT department and its people within the rest of the business.

At both of the events we've had already, not only did we have some of the top ranked CIOs in the UK but some fantastically open and honest conversation where the execs - and guest speakers - discussed their own experiences in a way that everyone really benefited from. I'd love to tell you more but the events are held under Chatham House rule to ensure that everyone feels comfortable.

The final event of this year is taking place on 10 November and the subject under discussion is 'the future of software'. It's being held at the Michelin-starred Benares restaurant in Mayfair, London.

We've been writing more and more about software as a service (or the cloud as it is increasingly now known) and I'm sure that will be popping up as an issue. But I'm also looking forward to seeing what the CIOs present make of the other big trends in software at the moment.

Each CIO Series event is limited to a maximum of 12 CIOs and places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you are a CIO - or equivalent head of IT - and would like to attend CIO Series events, click here to register as a CIO Series VIP. As a VIP, you'll be the first to hear about future events and CIO-exclusive offers.
