Some telling quotes:
"Britain can be one of the great global success stories in the coming age but only if we establish ourselves as a world leader in knowledge, science and skills."; and
"This exciting and important project will identify...the steps we must take in the years to come to become the leading location in the world for knowledge-based industries."
Which begs the question: why on earth did the Government think that it was anything approaching a good idea to scrap the Home Computing Initiative (HCI)? The recent actions of Mr Brown and the Treasury mandarins seems completely at odds with the now stated objectives of making this nation a great and wonderful technology haven.
"Separately, tomorrow will see the launch of 'Work Wise UK', a three-year campaign to encourage widespread adoption of smarter working practices, such as flexible working, remote working and working from home."
Wonderful! Well done Gordon! Having introduced tax measures in the last budget to effectively sink HCI and penalise companies who have such enlightened policies and practices as "flexible working", "remote working" and "working from home", you're now trying to encourage those very same practices.
Does his left hand have any idea what his right hand is trying to do?
