We need to take less note of the freedoms available and more about what controls the government are likely to impose. Our situation of control orders, unacceptable dress legislation etc is as a direct result of the freedoms that we used to enjoy 25 years ago but which are now being clamped down on by our government. Western democracies dealing with 20-100M people impose controls with a fairly light hand. China has a history of controlling its massive population through the application a much more heavy hand of law and order.

When China chooses to impose control on its people, what do we need to watch out for? What will be the impact on western businesses that have exported their key business activitities to China? What will be the impact on relations between the governments and the access to skills upon which we will become dependent?
