I was also in China for a week in the last month - the only web site I couldn't access was anything at "news.bbc", however most other news services were available.

The last time I saw some censorship I couldn't get around was when surfing from the UK to a web site regarding Oman where instead of getting the data I wanted (planning a trip) I got an FBI web page instead. Yes, doing a traceroute - my ISP was routing traffic to Oman via the USA.
