I have the same situation as yours, I am not a CIO but only an IT head. We don't have executives in the company except for the CEO, all other's are managers. It's really funny how people look down on us, just bec. we are an "IT guy" it does not mean that we are dumb of stupid. We do understand business and we are smart enough to share our skills and opinions to them. However, since i am just an IT guy, they treated me the same way you are treated. In fact, I am an IT Head, have the responsibility of an IT manager but does not have the benefit, the position of IT manager or even a salary of an IT manager. They just call me "IT Head" but not a manager, that's all. They have cars, I don't. They have lots of privileges that I don't have. And there are times that they just neglect me and does not include me in important meetings.
They consider me as a supervisor only and not a manager, but I have the responsibility and task of an IT manager.
I am a very talented person but my talents are being wasted. I know I can contribute a lot more than IT. I guess I just have to accept the truth, that a lot of people look down on IT. To you naked CIO, you are not alone.
