This was very well thought out, consise and highlighted the major issues that come with a business intelligence solution.

That often the business intelligance solution is selected well after the selection process for the applications (ERP, CRM, etc) have been chosen, and is a workaround for the business not looking into the reporting needs of the organisation at all levels.

The solution is also used as gaffer tape to hold information from disparate systems together, often being hobbled together by the developer or SI from the incomplete information. This causes the data to be transformed by scripts or the like before it gets to the business intelligent workaround, bringing in errors and mistakes from a fundamental misunderstanding of what the data represents.
