CIO skills are highly transferable. Gaining CIO Skills is the hard part, gaining sector experience, in my opinion, is the easier part.
A 'fresh pair of eyes' cannot hurt a business. Take a look at a lot of headline failures, what's the common denominator? yes, you got it, people with 'sector experience' but without the talent to challenge & deliver.
