UK CIOs to be rewarded for innovation
It's not all about cutting costs and keeping the lights on...

Private and public sector UK CIOs are to be rewarded for their commitment to innovation and a willingness to take risks on new technologies at an awards ceremony next month.

Several members of silicon.com's CIO Jury panel have made the final shortlist for the UK Technology and Innovation Growth Awards 2006.

Up for the private sector CIO Innovator of the Year gong are Frank Coyle, IT director at John Menzies distribution; Peter Pedersen, CTO at Blue Square, Al-Noor Ramji, CIO at BT Group; JP Rangaswami, global CIO at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein; and Phil Young, head of IT and operations at Amtrak Express Parcels.

On the shortlist for public sector CIO of the year are Richard Granger, director general of NHS IT; Simon Norbury, head of ICT at Westminster City Council; Steve Palmer, IT director at the London Borough of Hillingdon; Peter Ryder, head of ICT at Preston City Council; and John Suffolk, director general of Criminal Justice IT.

The winners will be announced at a central London ceremony on 21 February.
