BT wins £25m Balfour Beatty contract

BT has won a £25m contract with Balfour Beatty to provide networked IT services to the construction giant.

The deal will see BT consolidate Balfour Beatty's various distributed networks into one multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) data network which will serve 500 UK offices and project locations – including short term building sites.

All sites will be able to access a group-wide portfolio of applications as well as VPN and internet access capable of carrying VoIP calls for total connectivity.

Gary Bullard, UK MD of BT Global Services, claims the deal will enable Balfour Beatty to realise significant savings from the more streamlined and centralised approach to connectivity.

Bullard said flexibility and scalability were major priorities for the construction giant which must be able to react seamlessly to operational needs such as setting up a new project site.

The £25m deal will also see BT provide single point of contact helpdesk support.
