A hardcore team of silicon.com fundraisers are gearing up to tackle the three highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales during a 24-hour period next weekend.

We will be taking on the Vanco-sponsored Three Peaks Challenge in support of CARE International and we're still hoping to raise a lot more money.

Aided by a driver, the team of six climbers will climb more than 3,400 metres, walk 26 miles and drive more than 600 miles in one full-on, 24-hour period.

On the route up the three mountains experience tells us we will meet rain, wind, treacherous conditions underfoot and snow and freezing temperatures on the top of Ben Nevis.

Team leader Will Sturgeon said: "We're certainly going to have earned any money we raise for CARE.

"Some of us have done this before and some of us are novices to the challenge. The one certainty is all of us will struggle but it's a great cause and we'd urge people within the IT industry to get behind us in raising money for this challenge.

"We're aware that many companies already have causes which they support but the IT industry is still an incredibly wealthy sector and anything companies can spare will be welcome."

silicon.com has already received very generous pledges from a number of companies and this week secured a very welcome financial boost from Accenture.

Thanks also go to tech sector sponsors BlackSpider, Clearswift, Lumison, SAS and Unisys, as well as our friends in the PR industry from Bamboo, Band & Brown, Brands2Life, Edelman, Lewis, Pleon and Portfolio who have all already pledged or donated.

Thanks to everybody who has already supported us. Anybody who would still like to, please visit our Just Giving website.
