This action will only slow down the inevitable decline in music sales. Copying can in fact increase exposure and extend the customer base, not quite so detrimental when viewed in this light. Whilst I do accept that illicit copying has damaged sales,I think there is another reason, greed! A few years back the music industry was reeling under the impact of their self proclaimed superstar's becoming difficult to manage. They argued about royalties, jumped ship and didn't produce albums on time.
To overcome this, the music moguls decided to create their own stars with image being much more important than content. Throw away stars were the new order of the day, getting unruly? you're binned! The result was a bland mix of vacuous 'flossy' manufactured pop designed to appeal to a specific section of the buying community. The wilderness years! This fact is easily proven by the multitude of 'oldies' who featured in the top 10 and continue to do so. I will admit that things have improved lately but we have a long road back to the previous situation. As a final message to the music industry: Don't suppress talent in an effort to maintain higher company profits. Your sales will suffer and everyone will lose.
