WHAT? - lets get this into a sensible context - IT departments are NOT responsible for the energy consumption of a company - the Main Board is responsible for costs and profit.
Before you pick on the 'production' [IT] part of a company [because it has lots of devices and you learnt to do multiplication at school] why not ask how many companies have "exhaust air energy recycling systems"?
How many companies ensure that their sales force don't have cars that can burn huge amounts of fuel as the 'top of the range' vehicle screams away from every junction and set of lights - just 'cos it looks good?
And - back to my "winters tale", power input to a room remains constant during a heating cycle regardless of wether the power came from a radiator or a PC, so the net carbon load remains the same.
