Presented as a disconnect between IT and business. However this is a two-way process and often business is disconnected from IT.
This is often a result of unrealistic expectations. While IT is adaptable it cannot perform miracles and 'naive' business is then disappointed when the outcomes are not quite what they seem or there are knock on consequences. Often also it is a result of unrealistic deadlines and a dismissal of problems or constraints.
The solution is true partnership working where business trusts and recognises techie competencies and skills and importantly vice versa where IT recognises the needs and goals of business.
Too often it is a case of us and them, forgetting that there are common goals and also transferrable skills and knowledge on both sides of this debate.
