...and not forgetting Arthur C. Clarke's invention of the communication satellite - it didn't take too long for that to turn from sci-fi into reality.
Arthur C. Clarke got me hooked on sci-fi when I read all of his books in the St. Ives, Cornwall library aged 10! It must have been fantastic to know the man - I surely wouldn't have the career I have today without him.
AI is portrayed as the great future-terror in countless sci-fi books, films and comics. Perhaps it is that humans are only too aware of their own physical "sell-by date" and that the evolution of human intelligence will be carried in vessels of a different form.
