Potentially higher salaries are available in the south but then the prices of almost everything in the south reflects this differential by being dearer. If we evaluate the price of houses, local taxes, groceries and pubs against available local incomes our northern counterparts can actually be marginally better off with more disposable income than the 'toffs' down south.
