Zero emissions simply refers to emitting no waste products that pollute the environment or disrupt the climate.
Managed services provider Centrinet launched what it claims is the UK's first data centre with zero carbon emissions earlier this year. The data centre has been built 100 metres underground in a former RAF radar station, with all the power it uses coming from UK-based wind farms.
Banks have also been aiming for the zero carbon goal posts. Jon Williams, head of group sustainable development at HSBC, claimed the company has a zero-carbon branch in New York and wind and solar energy trials at its UK training centre at Bricket Wood in Hertfordshire also on its agenda.
