Cap Gemini is to develop software solutions that present long-term weather forecasts from Weather Action.
The forecasts will be customised for a wide range of temperature-dependent industries, from call centres and insurance companies to roadside emergency services and holiday agencies. Until now, the information has only existed as raw data, distributed in reports and emails direct from Weather Action.
Weather Action offers forecasts up to eleven months into the future. Its data is based on solar observations, as opposed to land-based forecasting services, which are short-term.
Weather Action commercial director, Melvin Wallace, told Silicon News: "We were unable to offer assistance, or to make the data relevant to particular industries until now."
Cap Gemini will develop statistics and a software model for the Weather Action data. Weather Action financial director, David Jackson, stressed that the partnership is a "working relationship" and that no money has changed hands. "Any clients who adopt the service will make separate payments to the two companies for software and data," he said.
Weather Action's charges will be mainly subscription-based, with prices varying from £10,000 to £30,000 per year. Each client will get its own, customised solution.
Cap Gemini and Weather Action expect to announce their first clients shortly.
