Action back in the black

Troubled British computer supplies company Action Computer Supplies today announced a turn-around in fortunes as it returned to profit.

Action also said that it is to drop the 'Computer Supplies' from its name.

The company recorded half-year pre-tax profits of £0.4m, after recording a full-year loss in 2000. It will not, however, pay an interim dividend as revenue for the six months to February was £137.29m, down from £137.64m year-on-year.

Action put the reversal of fortunes down to the strength of its catalogue, online business orders from its 140,000 customers and the sale of its Spanish subsidiary.

GlobalServe has been signed up to a three-year deal to manage a global reseller network. This will allow Action to bid for global supply contracts it hopes will generate in excess of £15m annually in revenue.

Action has also won outsourcing and web-hosting deals with Norwegian company Telenor.
