The US Supreme Court is looking into net porn for the third time to consider whether a law aiming to control internet content violates constitutional guarantees of free speech.

The US Justice Department is appealing against a federal court ruling that the Child Online Protection Act (COPA), passed in 1998, violates the right to free speech. The Supreme Court yesterday said that it would hear the case.
COPA is designed to prohibit commercial sites from selling sexually explicit material to minors.
Its predecessor, the Communications Decency Act (CDA), was a generalised measure which made it a felony to deliver indecent material to minors over the net. The Supreme Court struck down major sections of the CDA.
The Court has also announced its intention to weigh the constitutional issues raised by the Child Pornography Prevention Act, which enables the prosecution of those possessing digital images of people who 'appear to be minors' engaged in sexual acts.
Critics have pointed out that the Act would make copies of 'Romeo and Juliet' illegal.
