Microsoft is to enable the retail version of its new XP operating system with plug-and-play gateways, allowing home users and SMEs to access peer-to-peer networks.
The Universal plug-and-play facility allows broadband users high-speed access to peer-to-peer services such as online games and video conferencing. It also allows retail customers to set up home and small office networks.
Plug-and-play provides a digital exchange through which PCs and smart devices automatically communicate with each other, so there is no need to configure each device.
