Linux vendor Red Hat has taken the wraps off its ecommerce suite aimed at the SME (small and medium-sized enterprises) market.

The suite includes a variety of open source applications and services to help businesses develop their ecommerce strategy inhouse.

Red Hat said its targeting the SME market because the companies, which are usually only 50-1,000-strong, can not afford to buy expensive ecommerce platforms.

The suite includes the Interchange 4.8 ecommerce platform, the Apache secure web server, Red Hat database and Red Hat OS version 7.1.

The package comes with a support service and can be purchased on a monthly rate basis.

The product is initially available only in the US but will be launched in the UK later this year, a Red Hat spokeswoman confirmed.
