
Red Hat Linux powers charity's systems...

Environmental action group Greenpeace UK has transferred its mission-critical fundraising systems to a Linux-powered Java enterprise product from Red Hat.
The charity binned its old Windows desktop operating system after finding other alternatives on the market could help it cut the cost of running and maintaining its core systems.
Kit Kline, systems developer at Greenpeace UK, said in a statement: "An important part of IT in the not-for-profit sector is squeezing the maximum value from every penny so that more can be directed towards activities that make a tangible difference."
The Linux system currently supports 15 staff that access data from the charity's head office in Surrey.
Red Hat's system also supports supplier interaction, remote workers and fundraising online.
Greenpeace offices around the world are beginning to migrate proprietary servers to Linux systems.
