Citrix Online and BT are launching a co-branded remote access service which will enable broadband users to access home or office PCs remotely.

BT Remote Access Pack, powered by Citrix's GoToMyPC, will be aimed at giving home and small business users the same level of remote access enjoyed by those in large corporates.

Chris Lindsay, manager of new broadband propositions at BT Retail, said: "We're committed to providing small businesses and teleworkers with fast, secure access to information, regardless of where they are."

Lindsay said the combination of increasingly higher bandwidth always-on broadband and the ease of Citrix's GoToMyPC solution mean small businesses will become as adaptable and efficient as far larger enterprises.

He said the development is a positive move for competition across a variety of sectors in the UK.

The Citrix GoToMyPC offering includes a number of security measures, such as one-time passwords, end-to-end user authentication, 128-bit end-to-end advanced encryption standard, screen blanking and mouse locking of the host computer.

Last week, chatting at the Citrix iForum in Edinburgh, Mark Templeton, CEO of Citrix, explained to silicon.com that he had been able to access his home PC, back in the US, from a terminal in Edinburgh and alter his printer settings to resolve a problem his wife was experiencing, using his company's GoToMyPC service.

Other users will likely find more pressing business uses for the technology.
